12 Recipes to Spice up your Christmas

As November draws to a close and the weather starts heating up, it can only mean one thing: that first batch of Gingerbread Biscuits is only days away! Some people look forward to the presents, but here at Queen we’re all about the festive baking.

While we don’t like to play favourites with ingredients (except Vanilla, shh) nothing tastes more like Christmas than a generous dash of fragrant cinnamon. Pavlovas, cheesecakes, rum balls and even banana bread – cinnamon adds that extra little touch of holiday spice. To help inspire your best ever season of festive baking, read on for our top 12 cinnamon-scented holiday recipes!

1 – Gingerbread Fudge

Christmas is the perfect time for your inner fudge fanatic to run wild and free. We’ve combined our two favourite flavours in this Gingerbread Fudge, with a generous dose of Vanilla and all the classic gingerbread spices. But what’s the trick to perfectly smooth fudge?  Be sure to bring the mixture to a boil, then allow it to simmer for 5 – 6 minutes, stirring continuously. Watch for the colour change: once it turns a darker, golden shade of brown, it’s ready to remove from the heat.

2 – Chocolate Salami

While it looks a lot like the real deal, this sweet take on “salami” is packed with chocolate, cookies, nuts and a dash of cinnamon for an indulgent Christmas nibble. Just add a little twine to make a lovely edible gift!

3 – Gingerbread Biscuits

Perfect for the little (and not so little!) ones, nothing says Christmas quite like sitting around the kitchen bench with your family and unleashing your creativity on these classic Gingerbread biscuits. This is our go-to recipe – it’s super simple, lightly spiced and makes more than enough to go around.

4 – Soft Chocolate Gingerbread cookies

For true gingerbread lovers, this recipe is a nod to the traditional German style of gingerbread, Lebkuchen. Soft, fragrant and dipped in milk chocolate, they are chock full of festive spices with a zesty hint of orange.

5 – Cinnamon Doughnut Babycakes

Spend a lot less time making and a lot more time eating this Christmas with these quick and easy Cinnamon Doughnut Baby Cakes. Just like traditional doughnuts, but with a lot less fuss, these tender little cakes are a snack that’s sure to please. The scent wafting from your oven will have everyone racing to the kitchen!

6 – Gingerbread Marshmallow Slice

With a soft gingerbread base, fluffy marshmallow and rich chocolate topping, this festive slice combines all our favourite Christmas flavours. A touch of Vanilla Bean Paste takes the flavour depth up a notch, further enhancing the rich spices in this pillowy sweet treat.

7 – Cinnamon Roll Cookies

With summer in full swing, it might not quite be the weather for gloriously sticky and warm cinnamon buns, but Sally’s Baking Addiction is here with the next best thing! These Cinnamon Roll Cookies fit the bill for those cinnamon roll cravings, not to mention a lot easier to make than the real deal.

8 – Cinnamon Vanilla Candied Almonds

These addictive Cinnamon Vanilla Candied Almonds from The Chunky Chef are the perfect snack this festive season, and you won’t believe how easy they are to make at home. Be careful leaving jars of these around the house or they’ll be gone before you know it! We recommend making a double batch, just to be safe…

9 – Eggnog Cheesecake

While everyone is busy guzzling the eggnog this holiday season, stash half a cup aside to create this amazing Eggnog Cheesecake from Hip Foodie Mom. Creamy and luscious with a hint of festive flair, compliments will roll in when this cheesecake is brought to the table. Our favourite part is that it can be made a few days ahead for a no-stress Christmas day dessert.

10 – Cinnamon Banoffee Pavlova

Crunchy brown sugar cinnamon meringue topped with gooey caramel, clouds of whipped cream and chocolate shavings… Enough said! This is another great dessert to prep-ahead of the big day.

11 – Pear and Cinnamon Frangipane Tartlets

With a flaky crust, slices of juicy pear, almond frangipane and a generous dose of cinnamon, these Pear and Cinnamon Frangipane Tartlets from What Katie Ate are a fitting end to your Christmas feast. Top with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream and remember to wear your stretchy pants!

12 – Banana Bread with Vanilla Maple Glaze

It’s no secret that cinnamon and banana are made for each other. Our Banana Bread with Vanilla Maple Glaze is perfect for Christmas morning when you need something quick and festive to whip up before present time, perfect with a morning cuppa!
